The Nature Center is getting settled in its new location with plans to open by June 1. Crews have moved the center’s contents and display cases from its longtime home on Lovestone Drive to the new, more convenient location behind Sandy Mart.  The center’s new building, a former lake house, has been renovated, including new floors and a fresh coat of paint on the inside and outside. New Nature Center signs are already up as crews put the finishing touches on the building. While the heavy lifting is over, teammates are busy building the new displays and filling the glass cases with shells, fossils and other natural wonders for guests to enjoy and learn about.  The new center is on track to open in time for the busy summer season. Gov. Nikki Haley has delayed evacuations of some parts of Horry and Georgetown counties until Thursday morning, but evacuations continue at Ocean Lakes Family Campground ahead of Hurricane Matthew. The storm’s track shifted east overnight, which is good news for the Myrtle Beach area because it will lessen the storm’s impact here. The storm slowed and is expected to pass the S.C. coast as a Category 2 or Category 3 late Friday and Saturday. It is expected to bring between 4 and 8 inches of rain, high winds and storm surge.   But those impacts will depend on how close the storm skirts the coast. The farther east the storm goes, the less the impact on the Myrtle Beach area. “A lot of uncertainty exists with the track and the subsequent level of impact so please do not let your guard down as the track could change,” National Weather Service forecasters in Wilmington, N.C., said in their advisory Wednesday morning.
