Memorial Day Weekend Update: Traffic Loop, Highway 17 Construction, and the South Gate

With Memorial Day Weekend quickly approaching, Ocean Lakes is here to keep you in-the-know on what to expect when traveling to, from, and around Myrtle Beach, SC this holiday season.

Traffic Loop | There will be many motorcycles on the roads and a late-night traffic loop that includes Ocean Boulevard in Myrtle Beach, SC (about 3 miles North of the campground).

The Basic Information | Thousands of visitors will be along the Grand Strand for Atlantic Beach Bikefest. The 23-mile traffic loop that we have had for the last few years will be in place from 10 PM to 2 AM on Friday through Monday (May 24th – May 27th). This project aims to keep traffic flowing on Ocean Boulevard.

How To Navigate The Traffic Loop |
- Start at 29th Avenue North and Ocean Boulevard
- Continue South to Kings Highway near Myrtle Beach Airport
- The loop will go up Harrelson Boulevard to U.S. 501
- Northbound U.S. 31 to U.S. 17 Bypass and back to 29th Avenue North

Where Can You Receive More Information? | Call the Myrtle Beach Police Department’s Information Line at (843) 918-INFO (4636) to receive directions.

Traffic Tip | If you feel like the loop throws a curve ball in your weekend plans, you can email pdsocial@cityofmyrtlebeach.com and include your leaving point and destination. Myrtle Beach Police will respond with the best route, which would be to avoid the traffic loop.

Highway 17 Construction and South Gate | The Highway 17 Construction Project is ongoing and the previous communications regarding our South Gate are still in affect.

Due to the SCDOT construction, if you will be heading North towards Myrtle Beach, use the South Gate. However, if you will be heading South towards Surfside Beach, then use Spring Lane to the Main Gate traffic light to make a left turn, which will lead you southbound.

For your safety, we encourage guests to avoid the South Gate when heading South. Making a U-Turn at the traffic light is potentially hazardous due to the southbound traffic flow from Highway 544.

Until Next Time | We want to welcome you to Ocean Lakes Family Campground, and we hope you have a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend!
