Rip Current Info | Rip Currents are no joke and should be taken seriously. Read below for important information on how to handle a Rip Current:

1.    Do not fight the current and stay calm.
2.    Swim out of the current parallel to the shoreline. When out of the current, swim at an angle, away from the current, and towards the shore.
3.    If unable to swim out of rip current, calmly tread water.
4.    If you need assistance, call or wave for help.

Horry County’s Beach | The nearly one mile of beachfront falls under the jurisdiction of Horry County, which sets all the rules on the beach. The Horry County Police Department patrols the beach by Ocean Lakes and enforces those rules.

Important Horry County Beach Ordinances |
1.    No swimming between the red flags, which are designated for boat launch and surfing only.
  1. Shading devices, other than circular umbrellas with a circular shade no greater than seven feet six inches (7’6”) in diameter and small pop-up/blow-up cabanas for infants and very small children, are not permitted on the beach (year-round).  This includes, but is not limited to, tents, tarps, cabanas, pavilions, sports-brellas, or similar devices.  An umbrella is defined as a collapsible circular shade consisting of a natural or synthetic fabric shade stretched over hinged ribs radiating from a central pole without grounding lines or ropes.
3.    Any shading devices that impede the lifeguard’s view/area of responsibility, may be asked to move.
4.    No items (shading devices, floats, chairs, etc.) can be left on the beach between the hours of 7 PM and 8 AM. Items will be removed.
  1. Beach umbrellas are rented through the lifeguards.
  2. Alcoholic beverages are not allowed.

For all of the Horry County Beach Ordinances, head over to the Ocean Lakes website or the Horry County Government website.
