Do You Hear That?

As you all know, we strive to provide a safe, family-friendly environment for all guests. We want Ocean Lakes to be your happy place for the entire family for years to come. To ensure a safe, family-friendly environment, we have established policies throughout our 48 years that assist in safeguarding our values.

We continue to monitor our guests' comments and contemplate ways to improve their experience at Ocean Lakes. Sadly, the biggest complaint we continue to receive is NOT about our campground or service, but about other guests’ behavior.

Many guests have heralded the policy modifications that we have implemented during the last few years and we have seen guest behavior, and thus guest experiences, improve. We appreciate and value your feedback and hope you have a great vacation.

We are going to touch on one main policy today, which discusses loud or vulgar music.

Policy | Our policy states that there is to be no loud or vulgar music at any time or place in the campground.

Consequences | Any guest playing loud music will be issued a Warning, and if stopped again, will be issued a $100 fine. Any guest playing lewd or vulgar music at any time or place in the campground, will be issued a $100 fine, no exceptions.

All second violations of this policy will result in a $100 fine and the loss of privilege to operate a golf car in the campground. The golf car will then be placed back on the camping guest’s trailer or into the golf car storage area. Annual Lease Holder’s golf cars will be removed from the property or placed into the golf car storage area and there will be loss of privilege for 1-year during the 5-year probationary period.

Seconds With Cedric | We spoke with our Head of Security, Cedric, on this matter, and he explained, “We understand in today’s world, people have different definitions on what is “vulgar.”

Q: So, Cedric, what is considered “vulgar music?”
A: Vulgar music includes cussing, information in the song or lyrics that are derogatory.

Q: When it comes to loud music, how loud is too loud?
A: Simply put, others around you should not hear what you are listening to.

Q: What are your final thoughts on this policy?
A: There are many young ears in our campground. We choose to enforce policies that ensure parents and grandparents do not have to explain to their young children or grandchildren what they are hearing blaring from another guest’s speakers.

Lance Enlightenment | When asked about our efforts in decreasing the amount of loud or vulgar music issues, Lance Thompson, the General Manager of Ocean Lakes Family Campground, stated, “We are working hard to enforce our rules and regulations to maintain our family-oriented environment. Like many guests, we are disappointed with the conduct and behavior of some guests.”

He continued by saying, “We pledge to you all of our continued efforts and ask that you please notify Security if you encounter a loud or vulgar music issue that needs to be addressed. As always, any information that can be provided, such as a golf car number, description of individuals, or the location will be helpful.”

Until Next Time | If you would like to read more about our policies, head over to our website for Golf Car Policies and General Campground Policies.

Our co-founder, Nelson Jackson, often said, “We really only have one rule, conduct yourselves like ladies and gentlemen.” While we do have more than one policy, we do ask guests to keep Mr. Jackson’s wise words in mind.

Remember, most guests come here to listen to the sounds of the ocean and the splashes coming from Sandy Harbor Water Park. You are on vacation - Keep the music clean, the volume knob turned down low, and HAVE FUN!
