Spook Up Your Campsite
Halloweekends
are right around the corner, and with the recent announcement of our theme and
our spooktacular decorations going up, we are in the spooky spirit at Ocean
Lakes!
We
know our guests love this time of year in the campground just as much as we do,
and we also know that many of our guests plan months or even the entire year
ahead when preparing for their costumes or site decorations. We absolutely LOVE
the dedication and enthusiasm!
Welcome
to Ocean Lakes’ Halloweekends |
Each year, we meet campers that are staying with us for the first time or are
spending their very first Halloweekends with us. This week, we are sharing
insight on how guests decorate their campsites and providing you with ten tips
on what you can do!
Decorating
101 | Ten Tips
1. Carved Pumpkins | While this may seem like the obvious
option when decorating, we want to remind each of you that we have a Pumpkin
Decorating/Carving Contest each weekend! Adults and kids love this Halloween
tradition and they are the perfect touch to any site.
2. Fun With Food | Let your inner baker come out and bake
Halloween-themed desserts, such as cupcakes, cookies, pies, or even cake pops!
The kids will LOVE these sweet treats.
3. Inflatables | This is a fun way to spruce up your
site and have guests taking a double take at your decorations!
4. Lights | Instead of regular string lights, use
colored lights or “ghost” string lights. Another option could be regular
lanterns or colored spotlights to highlight your decorations at night.
5. Characters | Witches, ghosts, skeletons, and
scarecrows are a great touch - They will add that extra “wow” factor!
6. Haunted
Site | If you have the space, set it up so there is a haunted trail, and let
your creativity run wild with this idea!
7. Knick Knacks | A centerpiece for your picnic table, a
sign to put at your camper, or even a wreath for your camper door will add that
festive look you are going for!
8. Costumes | Wear a mask, cape, or carry around a
sword when hanging out around your campsite! Other guests will love the
enthusiasm, especially the kiddos!
9. Cobwebs | Stretch fake spider webs across your
camper, over the entrance way, or over props around your campsite!
10. Shadow Puppets | Create cut-outs of bats, ghosts, or
spiders and put them on a stick to place in spots that you can make shadows!
Creepy
Site Crawl | If you are
interested in entering your site in the Halloween decorating contest, sign up
in the Recreation Center prior to 5 PM on the day of. Please keep your
decorations friendly for “young eyes” for this event. Prizes will be awarded to
the top three sites with the most votes. There is no fee to participate in this
event.
At
6:30 PM each Saturday, we will give Site Judges a list to those interested in
viewing/judging the sites. Upon receiving the list, our guests will perform the
Creepy Site Crawl throughout the campground. All ballots must be returned to
the Recreation Center by 8 PM in order to be counted. Only one ballot per
family will be accepted.
Until
Next Time | We love
cruising through the campground to see what our guests are up to each
Halloweekend! You never know when we will be taking pictures or featuring your
campsite in a video, so be prepared, and put your most spooky, creative
decorations on display!
