Cruisin’ around on a golf car in Ocean Lakes has become the main source of transportation in the campground. Getting to and from your site on 310-acres of campground is much easier when you are on a golf car. 

This week, on Campground Conversations, we are talking to Paul Jones, the Ocean Lakes Golf Cars Manager. He is explaining the golf car rental process and answering the frequently asked questions from guests. Meet Paul!

Here’s what Paul had to say on renting a golf car from Ocean Lakes Golf Cars |

The Rental Process | Golf cars can be rented upon your arrival at Ocean Lakes by any registered guest who is at least 21 years old and has a valid driver's license. Any member of your party who is at least 16 years old AND has a valid driver's license may operate the golf car. We do not rent to anyone staying outside of Ocean Lakes Family Campground. Be sure to bring your driver's license and your site number with you when renting a golf car.  

Rules | Please keep in mind, we do not allow outside rentals or gas-powered golf cars in the campground. We allow a maximum of 5 people on a rental golf car at any given time. Underage driving, reckless driving, leaving Ocean Lakes Family Campground’s property, loud/vulgar music, driving after quiet hours (11 PM – 7 AM), and open containers of alcohol are all prohibited. 

Consequences | Golf cars are a huge part of the culture at Ocean Lakes. We want everyone to enjoy their time and experience in Ocean Lakes, but the policies and rules are in place to help promote the safety of our guests and our Teammates. Our ultimate objective is to make Ocean Lakes Family Campground the most safe and enjoyable family-oriented vacation destination that it can possibly be.

A $100 Fine will be issued after ONE warning for the following:

1. Loud music in the campground.
2. “Cruising” after Quiet Hours (11 PM – 7 AM) with no legitimate destination.We are not out to harass guests utilizing necessary facilities, such as the bathhouses or Soapy Suds, etc. We are targeting guests “cruising” around the campground, generally making noise or looking for trouble (coolers, bikes, alcohol, unlocked vehicles, etc.).
3. Open containers of alcohol anywhere but at your site – Please do not drink and drive!We understand that our guests are on vacation and want to relax with family and friends and enjoy themselves. That may include an adult beverage and that is permitted at their site. However, open containers of alcohol are not permitted on vehicles (that includes golf cars) for it is against South Carolina state law. It is true, we are private property, and we choose to uphold the state laws.

A $100 Fine will be issued WITHOUT warning for the following:

1. Underage driving - Driver MUST be at least 16 years of age with valid driver’s license in their possession. The licensed driver must be in control of the golf car at all times (hands on wheel, foot on pedals).
2. Reckless driving, horseplay, racing, or other misuse of the golf car. Drivers must obey all traffic signs.
3. Taking rental golf cars off property – DO NOT go past the entry gates or onto the beach.
4. Lewd, vulgar, or offensive music in the campground – Remember young eyes and young ears!

Rental Rates | Our golf car rental rates vary depending on the time of year. There will be 8% tax added on to the rental rate. There are no discounts for multiple car rentals, seniors, or camping clubs. Rates can be found on our website or be seen below.

A: No, only the standard size golf car.

A: No, you can bring a personal electric golf car that is registered with us or rent a golf car from Ocean Lakes Golf Cars.

Q: Can an Ocean Lakes Golf Cars rental golf car leave the campground?

A: No, all rental golf cars must remain inside Ocean Lakes Family Campground at all times.

Q: How much liability coverage is required to bring in my personal golf car?

A: $50,000 of liability coverage and you must have proof of insurance.
