Ocean Lakes has Gone to the Dogs | A PAWSitively Awesome Announcement

We are unleashing BIG news today… Are you ready fur this?

Ocean Lakes is excited to announce that we are adding two new amenities to the campground for a very special demographic… Our dogs!

Coming Spring 2022 | Sandy’s Lakeside Paws N’ Play and Sandy’s Wash N’ Wag

Location, Location, Location | Our Team has utilized an entire acre of land for the dog park and wash stations! Both of these amenities are located beside each other next to the Nature Center. For those of you that have visited the Nature Center, you know how peaceful and beautiful this location is – There are lots of trees for shade and Magnolia Lake creates a serene environment.

If you are not familiar with the Nature Center’s location, here are directions:

If you are heading south on Ocean Lakes Drive, turn right onto Magnolia Lake Circle, then take the first left. The Nature Center, Sandy’s Lakeside Paws N’ Play, and Sandy’s Wash N’ Wag will be on your right.

A Gesture From Greg | Being a dog-lover himself, Greg, our General Manager and Vice President, is equally excited!
“The Teammates at Ocean Lakes are very excited to bring Sandy’s Lakeside Paws N’ Play and Sandy’s Wash N’ Wag to reality this coming Spring. Our guests have been asking for a place to take their dogs to run and play, and a place to bathe them after a morning or evening play session on the beach. As we all know, the friendship between a dog and his/her owner is something very special. More and more guests this day and time bring their pets on vacation, and camping makes that even more possible. Our guests, both human and canine, love the outdoors and the beach, and we are looking forward to opening these new amenities for them to enjoy!”
Sandy’s Lakeside Paws N’ Play | All doggie guests are welcome to jump, run, and play in our new dog park! We will have three playground attractions within the park.

1. The Elevation Station | Staggered and elevated jump platforms

2. The Ramp-n-Run | Ramp and drainpipe

3. The K9-Kopter | A 9-foot, 4-blade rotating tower with spring-loaded tug ropes

Upon entering the park, there will be a de-leashing area for pet parents to unleash their dogs and gather themselves before entrance.

Disclaimer: While this is a playground and the play structures look like fun, please keep in mind this is ONLY for dogs

Sandy’s Wash N’ Wag | There will be two wash stations on a concrete pad right beside the dog park. The price of each wash is $8.

The features of the wash stations include:
  • High Grade Stainless Steel
  • 3 Options: Shampoo, Flea Shampoo, Conditioner
  • Free Disinfect
  • Pause Feature
  • Configurable Bonus Time
  • 2-Speed Turbo Dryer
  • Available with English or French/English Decal Instructions
  • MDB Keypad Controller
  • Configurable Time/Price
  • Hair Free Non-Slip Floor
  • 3rd Generation Advanced Hair Filtration System

Construction and Operations with Kevin | Our Operations Manager, Kevin, has been struggling with keeping this big surprise under wraps! Kevin and his Team have been planning and executing this project since August and are excited to finally share the news and welcome guests to the dog park!

“This has truly been a team effort and we have been extremely fortunate to have this additional space to repurpose for these new amenities. From an operations standpoint, the entire process has gone smoothly, which will allow us to open sooner than expected. The estimated opening date is early March 2022.”
Recycling is the Way to Go | All items were made in-house with recycled materials by our very talented Maintenance Teammates. Multiple landscape islands were added from repurposed plants and grasses from the H-Bathhouse, as well as three 8-foot benches for our human guests to sit and relax while the doggie guests play.

Team Effort | While the Maintenance/Carpentry Team has been building the play structures, the Green Team installed the perimeter post and rope fence, and they elevated the trees. There will be a 5-foot fence installed very soon, as well. The Maintenance/Utilities Team installed the water, sewer, and power throughout the dog park. Santee Cooper will be adding additional lighting to this area. We have poured a concrete pad for the wash station, which will be an open-air shelter. More supplies will be arriving in January and we will work to finalize every detail before opening day.

Let’s Get Down to Business | We have created a special place just for our canine family members, and it features a shaded area for leashless fun, play, and running! For the safety and courtesy of all, we have provided a list of friendly doggie etiquette tips for the pet parents:

Friendly Doggie Etiquette Tips for Humans |
  • Keep your furbaby in view at all times and make sure they can hear your voice.
  • Help avoid issues - Keep dog and human treats out of the park.
  • Adorn your beloved furbaby with a collar and its bling (current tags, rabies, etc.).
  • Help keep it a happy place, no bossy or aggressive attitudes please (furbabies or pet parents). We all have bad days, so try again tomorrow.
  • Your pup can join the fun after they have celebrated their 3-month birthday! This is for your pup’s health.
  • Wellness is the key! Please make sure all shots are up to date and your pup is not contagious.
  • While many find love at Ocean Lakes, K9 romance is not allowed. If your pup starts to get affectionate (or is in heat), please depart the park.
  • Please, no smoke signals (either cigarettes or vaping).
  • This playground and equipment are just for doggies, please explain this to your kiddos.
  • Heads up! Just as some humans find dogs intimidating, some kiddos can be a little scary to our furbabies because they stand at eye level to the pup.
  • Please pick up the doggie doo immediately, nobody enjoys cleaning their shoes!
  • Our Lakeside Paws n’ Play is for K9 fun and exercise! Pet parents please exercise caution and be aware of your furbaby’s limitations and personality.
  • For the safety of the kiddos AND dogs, children MUST be accompanied by an adult at all times.
  • Ocean Lakes is not responsible for the actions of dogs or owners within the dog park.
  • Play Time: In-Season (May 1-October 1): 8 AM – 8 PM | Off-Season (October 2-April 30): 8 AM –5 PM.
  • To fetch help, call the Main Gate at (843) 828-4847.
Please Note: This is new to all of us, so we may need to adjust our etiquette tips [policies] during 2022 to help keep the peace. These changes will be noted on OceanLakes.com (see About Us, then Policies). Thank you for your understanding!

Until Next Time | As the project comes along, we will keep everyone updated (as always) through our social media and website! Opening day is scheduled for early March 2022, so stay tuned for an exact date to be announced.

On a scale from 1 to 10, this project is going to be above a K9!
