Unprecedented Times Calls For Unprecedented Measures | An Ocean Lakes Update
As you all know, we are living in a very uncertain and unprecedented time. If you had told any of our Teammates at the beginning of 2020 that we would not be accepting Campsite Reservations, would be cancelling our Easter Activities, would not be holding our Sunday Church Service or even our Easter Sunrise Service, and that people would be hoarding toilet paper… We would have thought you had lost your mind (you would have thought the same)!
Making Adjustments | Please know that our team is concerned and continues to monitor local, regional, and national information. We began taking extra precautions as recommended by the CDC weeks ago and have implemented additional cleaning and disinfection cycles throughout our entire operations and facilities, as well as installed additional hand sanitizing stations in our common areas and facilities. We have adjusted our Campsite and Ocean Lakes Properties Beach House Rental cancellation policies.
Now Making Even MORE Adjustments | Last week, due to Horry County’s latest Ordinance, we stopped accepting reservations and only allowed Teammates and Annual Lease Site Holders into the campground until April 30th. Our entire operations have been flipped upside down. Teammates are performing tasks outside of their normal duties, and are working to maintain 6-foot distance while continuously cleaning.
Gold Star Moment | We all possess a sense of pride in one another and our company as we have witnessed the Ocean Lakes Teammates join together and step up in the face of adversity and uncertainty. It truly is remarkable.
Hmm, What Are We Doing? | With no new reservations and our operations making adjustments, one may ask, “What are the Ocean Lakes Teammates up to?” Well, we are glad you asked!
As many of you know, we are always looking for ways to improve in every aspect. We have lists of projects and goals that are not always easy to get to, as our season has become more year-round. Normally, our Teammates stay busy with daily tasks and race to complete capital projects before Easter. This “down” time has provided us the opportunity to complete some extra projects! We are trying to find the "silver-lining" during this difficult situation.
When we reopen and are allowed to accept guests – oh, what a glorious day that will be – We want our guests to say, “Wow!” and “Look what they have done!” and maybe even a few, “This looks awesome!”
Let’s dive in together as I fill you in on what our awesome team has been up to!
Leveling Campsites | Have you pulled in on a campsite and noticed it was not quite level and had some roots sticking up?
We have hauled in topsoil from offsite to level out the uneven campsites and to cover the exposed tree roots, which will also help protect our trees. Next week, we will be hydroseeding these sites, which is a quicker process to growing grass as opposed to seed and straw. We expect the germination process to be complete within the next few weeks.
Meter Base Replacements | Our Maintenance Team is replacing meter bases for our Annual Lease Site Holders. Meter bases are being changed due to their age and condition. We build the new bases ourselves, and with the help of Santee Cooper and the Plumbing and Electrical Team, we average about 25 – 35 change-out’s per year.
Beachfront Painting | A fresh paint job will make anything look new and pretty! Our pedestrian crosswalks, handicap accessible parking spots, and parking spot lines are being repainted along the beachfront.
Recreation Painting | The Recreation Team is working on painting the borders throughout the Recreation Center. The windows and blinds are being deep cleaned, as well. This beloved building is getting a nice deep Spring cleaning!
Until Next Time | Stay tuned for tomorrow’s video, which will highlight these four projects and our Teammates completing them.
We will be bringing another update your way very soon! We will be detailing even more projects occurring throughout the campground! You do not want to miss this.
We sure do miss each of you and look forward to the day we can resume normal operations. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and our Teammates. We are here virtually, everyday!
Stay safe, stay healthy, stay hopeful.
