The Scoop On This Sweet Surprise | An Ocean Lakes Announcement

The number one request we have been receiving regarding the Meet n’ Eat is to fix the long line by opening the side window for ice cream. Well, we went a step further and are adding onto the building!

We sat down with Tonie Holman, our Food and Beverage Manager, to discuss this new addition | 

Q | Hey, Tonie! So, let’s chat about this new addition to the Meet n’ Eat. How did this come about? 

A | The purpose of this addition is efficiency and time management. How can we serve more guests and cut down on the wait time? By adding an extension to our main building, we are able to increase the number of guests we serve daily. At this new addition, we will only be serving ice cream and drinks, preventing guests from waiting in a long line if they just want ice cream and drinks. The goal is to have two lines; one for ice cream and drinks only and the other for menu items. Construction started last week, and we already have the framework completed. Once more material arrives, we will be able to continue this project. The goal is to have this completed and opened to guests by Easter. 



Q | What is happening here – How is the addition being connected to the Meet n’ Eat?

A | The window on the side of the building will be removed and an opening/archway leading into the new area will be added, as well as a door on the other side facing Center Stage. This will allow for Teammates to have easy access. The framework is already up, so that gives everyone an idea of the new layout.



Q | While the Meet n’ Eat is closed, where can guests get their breakfast biscuit or afternoon ice cream fix?

A | While the Meet n’ Eat is closed, Sandy Harbor Café will remain open for guests. We have not closed food services at all and do not intend to. Prior to this year, we would typically close down all food services for 2-3 weeks for the annual cleaning. However, we worked it out so that we could have all areas cleaned, the addition completed, and keep at least one food service location open for guests. 



Q | You and your Team must be excited! What is a perk of this from the Teammates’ standpoint?

A | Our Team is very excited about this renovation! We can rearrange all the equipment we use and maximize space and efficiency. This also allows the space to be used for more products and storage.  


Q | With more choices for guests, this must mean more Teammates. What is the plan?

A | With the new addition, we will be hiring more Teammates than in previous years. We know that some guests are discouraged to get in line due to the wait time. With more space and more Teammates, we are hoping to better serve our guests and to operate more efficiently. Many guests have recommended that we open the side window for ice cream; however, operationally, it is not possible. As a Manager, I have two main priorities – To serve our guests and to take care of my Team.
