Camping 101: Pre-Trip Preparation | Campground Conversations
We are excited to bring you a new segment called Campground Conversations! Here is what you can expect – Each week, we will publish a blog entry that details a new, helpful topic, then the next day, we will introduce you to a Teammate that will show you what you need to know on this topic in a video.
Vacationing at Ocean Lakes is an exciting adventure where you create family memories that will last a lifetime. Therefore, through Campground Conversations, we hope to provide you with the information you need to make your trip to Ocean Lakes as simple and effortless as possible. We want you to kick back, relax, and enjoy our beautiful campground and all that it has to offer.
Without further ado, let’s dive into our first segment of Campground Conversations – Camping 101: Pre-Trip Preparation |
This week, on Campground Conversations, we are talking about how to pre-trip your trailer to be safe on the highway. Meet Tim "the Storage Man" Harmon, or just Tim Harmon (for those of you that have seen the show Home Improvement, you will get the reference). Tim is the Supervisor of the Storage Department, and he is joining the conversation this week.
Here is what Tim had to say:
First Things First | Do a walk-around of your trailer to make sure your compartment hatches are closed and latched, then make sure to check your lights (taillights, brake lights, park lights, marker lights, and turn signals).
Remember, always check your brakes and ensure you have a strong connection to your trailer hitch.
Tire Talk | Check the tire pressure (Hint: Recommended tire pressure is in small print on tire), look for weather cracks, and check in between tread for cracks to see if the tires are past their life span.
Keep in mind, if you change one tire, you need to consider changing all tires. When your trailer was new, all tires were put on at the same time. It is likely that if one tire blows, then there will be another tire(s) that blows.
Must Go To Masons | If you need further assistance with your tires upon arriving at Ocean Lakes, Mason Tire is located near the campground and is allowed inside the campground. They can be reached at (843) 238-3339.
Packing Tip | Two items that you want to consider putting inside your vehicle before hitting the road: Fix A Flat and a Tire Plug Kit. A Tire Plug Kit would be useful if you hit a nail and your tire went flat. If you use Fix A Flat and you take your tire to a repair shot to be fixed, which we recommend doing as soon as possible, let them know you used Fix A Flat because it makes a mess on the inside of the tire.
Lists Make The World Go Around | Get into a rhythm or create a list when you are about to leave home and get on the road. For example, this could prevent forgetting to put down your TV Antenna, closing your vent hatches on top, closing your hatches on the side, making sure everything on the back is secured, and checking the safety pins on your hitch.
Here To Help | If you have any questions, call the Information Line at (843) 828-4788 or (843) 828-4799. Feel free to call the Storage Department and speak with me (Tim) at (843) 828-4881.
Until Next Time | Stay tuned for the first Campground Conversations video to debut tomorrow on our social media! You will meet our Storage Department Supervisor, Tim, as he walks you through what you need to know and do before you even leave your home and head to Ocean Lakes.
That’s our Campground Conversation for the week – We will catch ya later, Ocean Lakes!
