Stay Social, Stay Connected | Campground Conversations
Welcome back to Campground Conversations! We are excited to bring you a new topic this week, so let’s get the conversation started.
This week, on Campground Conversations, we are talking about the official Ocean Lakes social media pages and how to keep you virtually safe. Meet Lauren, the Communications and Social Media Specialist – She is joining the conversation this week.
We sat down for a little Q&A with Lauren – Here is what she had to say |
Q: What role do you play regarding social media here at Ocean Lakes?
A: I am the Communications and Social Media Specialist, so I handle everything social media! Ocean Lakes has quite the social presence – We are on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, YouTube, and Snapchat! Not only do I have the pleasure of being the Social Media Specialist, but I am the author of the Ocean Lakes Blog, as well (yes, I am interviewing myself for this blog).
Q: Why a conversation about social media and websites?
A: Our team speaks and virtually communicates with thousands of people and we see an alarming trend. They are confused about what they see online, many see the “Ocean Lakes” name and think it is official or correct information. They are trusting what they read (and hear) to be factual, but often the information is not factual, it is coming from the wrong sources.
Q: What can happen to people that may trust an unofficial source?
A: Some sources spread rumors, misinformation, and even negativity. Plus, there are scammers looking for the opportunity to take money from future guests. People can have a scam-free experience by going to Ocean Lakes’ official online channels and social media.
Q: How do people find the official Ocean Lakes information?
A: To find the OFFICIAL Ocean Lakes information just remember to go to OceanLakes.com. All of the official social media channels are linked in the TOP RIGHT HAND corner of the page.
Q: Do departments in the campground have their own social media accounts?
A: Yes! Ocean Lakes Properties, Ocean Lakes Golf Cars, and Ocean Lakes RV Center each have a Facebook page. Ocean Lakes Golf Cars has their own Instagram account, as well. These accounts are safe to follow and can be trusted for accurate and current information.
Q: Why is it important that guests and Annual Lease Site Holders follow the official Ocean Lakes social media pages?
A: OceanLakes.com and our official social media pages is where everyone will find the latest factual information and updates on everything Ocean Lakes. Plus, OceanLakes.com links to all of our official websites like Properties, Golf Cars and RV Center. It has the most updated information on emergency information about what is impacting our area and campground, such as storms… Or a pandemic.
Q: What about Facebook groups or fan pages?
A: Those are fun to follow for all the Ocean Lakes lovers out there! However, Ocean Lakes Family Campground only has ONE official Facebook page, no groups. I do caution readers about what is posted in those groups. I say that because they may be posting “what they heard” or speculative knowledge, and not the factual information. In today’s society, many people want to be the first to get the word out there (LOL, that is my job)! Unless it is coming directly from Ocean Lakes Family Campground, do not believe what you hear and read.
We strongly encourage anyone with a page, site, or group related to Ocean Lakes to SHARE our official posts or INCLUDE our OceanLakes.com web page link. Our content changes frequently, and anyone that saves a link can find the updated, official, and factual information.
Q: How are people getting scammed through social media and websites?
A: Criminals do not take a vacation, but they sure look for someone who is planning one. The best example of this would be when individuals try to privately rent a beach house in Ocean Lakes through social media. I recommend not posting in groups or on other pages on Facebook with dates you are looking for a beach house - “ISO”. You are opening yourself up and inviting scammers in because you do not know the source that is contacting you. They can easily steal pictures of a site and “pull one over on you.” Sadly, that is the virtual world we live in and we have seen it happen.
While we allow guests to rent privately, we always strongly encourage guests to rent through Ocean Lakes Properties. That is the only 100% scam free guarantee you will find. Ocean Lakes Family Campground does not have anything to do with the private contract and transaction between a private renter and a guest.
